Chronic Dry Mouth - Xerostomia

The common basis for people having a dry mouth is under production of saliva. What is not so common however is how inadequate saliva production gets started for different individuals.

Saliva is critical for many reasons. It helps digest food, facilitates chewing and swallowing of food, controls infection and the growth of undesireable bacteria and fungi, and most importantly protects teeth from decay.
